Meet the founder, Ambika

Ambika is a passionate exponent of the art of Bharathanatyam, a form of Indian classical dance. She is also passionate about the cause of women’s empowerment in the world. She believes that when women thrive, society as a whole thrives.

In 2009, Ambika organized and performed in a solo dance program designed to raise awareness and funds in support of two bay area organizations (Maitri and Asian Women’s Home), working on behalf of victims of domestic violence. This was the beginning of illumi.

She subsequently organized a fundraiser in 2014, illumi’s second event, for Move Up, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering underserved minority women.

In 2017, illumi’s third event featured a diverse dance festival — Ambika performed solo and welcomed four guest performers — all performing on the theme of women’s empowerment.

Today, as the founder of illumi, Ambika seeks to raise awareness about women's issues through her passion for dance and the arts.
